Bangladeshi scientist discover new frog species (Raorchestes rezakhani)

Hassan Al Razi discover new frog species in Bangladesh. scientific name: Raorchestes rezakhani, English Name: Bush frog. The 16S rRNA gene distinguished this species from 48 known species of this genus. Bayesian Inference and Maximum Likelihood analyses indicated  that  the  new  species  was  most  similar  to  R.  tuberohumerus,  a  species  found  in  the  Western  Ghats, and to R. gryllus, a species found in Vietnam. Bioacoustics indicated that their calls were similar in pattern to most Raorchestes species, although number of pulses, duration of pulses, pulse intervals and amplitude differentiated it from a few other species. It is suggested that northeastern India, Bangladesh, northern Myanmar, and southern China represent important, relatively unexplored areas that could yield additional  species  of  Raorchestes.  Since  many  remaining  habitat  patches  in  Bangladesh  are  under  severe  threat from deforestation, efforts should be made to protect these last patches from further degradation.

Bangladesh falls within the Indo-Malayan realm, with forests classified as tropical moist, tropical evergreen and several other less-extensive forest types . Broad similarities exist between forest patches in north-eastern and southeastern Bangladesh and the surrounding Indian States of Meghalaya, Tripura, Mizoram and Nagaland, and adjoining northern Myanmar and southern China.

Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19)

Reported illnesses have ranged from mild symptoms to severe illness and death for confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases. Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses. Some cause illness in people and others cause illness in animals. Human coronaviruses are common and are typically associated with mild illnesses, similar to the common cold. COVID-19 is a new disease that has not been previously identified in humans. Rarely, animal coronaviruses can infect people, and more rarely, these can then spread from person to person through close contact. There have been 2 other specific coronaviruses that have spread from animals to humans and which have caused severe illness in humans. These symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure (based on the incubation period of MERS-CoV viruses).
  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath

Even if you don’t get sick, the choices you make about where you go could be the difference between life and death for someone else. https://twitter.com/WHO/status/1241049912017588225?s=20  COVID-19 Coronavirus information data recorded in worldometers (https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

• WHO is working 24/7 to analyse data, provide advice, coordinate with partners, help countries prepare, increase supplies and manage expert networks.
• The outbreak was declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on 30 January 2020.

• The international community has asked for US$675 million to help protect states with weaker health systems as part of its Strategic Preparedness and Response Plan. UN Secretary-General calls for solidarity, hope and political will.

Treating coronavirus and Vaccine: Most people with mild coronavirus illness will recover on their own.If you are concerned about your symptoms, you should self-monitor and consult your health care provider. They may recommend steps you can take to relieve symptoms. At this time, there is no vaccine for COVID-19 or any natural health products that are authorized to treat or protect against COVID-19. If you have received a flu vaccine, it will not protect against coronaviruses.

Educational Outreach Program

Our Educational Outreach Program is currently developing a compact and easily transportable new exhibition focusing on fish and freshwater dolphin conservation and sustainable fisheries. The exhibition elements, including interactive parts for community events.

@ WCS & BCDP
The traveling Shushuk Mela 2014 was formidable information sharing platform which was held near Sundarban area on 2014. The Sundarbans is a mangrove area in the delta formed by the confluence of Ganges, Brahmaputra and Meghna Rivers in the Bay of Bengal. The overwhelmingly positive reactions from visitors of all ages and backgrounds encourage us to continue developing innovative and effective educational outreach tools. Through the outreach program we achieved a measurable increase in knowledge about and positive attitudes towards freshwater dolphins.

@ WCS & BCDP
The Shushuk Mela has significantly contributed to building cetacean conservation constituencies among those living and working in close proximity to the wildlife sanctuaries for freshwater dolphins. The Wildlife Conservation Society’s (WCS) and Bangladesh Cetacean Diversity Project (BCDP) has been worked to conserve the cetacean diversity and abundance in Bangladesh with local communities and institutions. The amazing diversity of cetaceans (dolphins, whales and porpoises) and fish living in the rivers, estuaries and deep-sea waters of Bangladesh is to share information about endangered freshwater dolphins, and engage villagers in discussions about efforts to conserve these animals, maintain sustainable fishing livelihoods, and cope with the impacts of declining freshwater flows and climate change.

@ WCS & BCDP

Educational outreach campaigns provide educational experiences for young people in classrooms, libraries, after-school programs, community-based organizations, museums, etc., as well as supporting the professional development of the professionals and paraprofessionals who work with them. It focus the general audience, or a family activity guide, or a partnership. Awareness, skill-building, and/or behavior-changing lesson plans, activities and/or classroom supplements are great support for outreach program.
